The most Instagrammable places you can find in Venice
Besides the most famous places of Venice, which photographs you can find almost anywhere, which are the best places to take a perfect shot?
If you read through this article, you will find mysterious doors, ancient cafes, amazing stairs and also shops which seem like the gateway to another world.
10. The Blue Door, hidden in the streets of Castello district
Close to the Church of Santa Maria Formosa, a few minutes away from San Marco, there is a mysterious wooden door that has recently become famous for its unique look.
Although the turquoise blue paint is slowly fading from the ancient door, its appearance, embellished by the gothic architecture that makes the entrance, creates a very suggestive place.
The door is located in Calle de Mezo and even though it's so beautiful, it's not the entrance to a museum or to a great palace. Unfortunately, the door is not in its best condition but it's still a great Instagrammable spot of Venice.
If you like to visit another blue door, perfectly preserved, within a short walk, there is the famous restaurant, Hostaria Castello (Salizada S. Antonin, 3476).
9. The Libreria Acqua Alta, one of the most famous Instagram spots in Venice
Not only is it one of the most famous bookshops of Venice, but it is actually famous all over the world.
The Libreria Acqua Alta (the Bookshop of the High Tide, so to say) is not far from the blue door we discovered before.
It's amazing, full of old and new books, and cats. However, what makes it one of the best places for your Instagram contents is certainly the fact that books, parts of boats and actually a bathtub and a gondola are used instead of bookshelves.
It's located in Calle Lunga Santa Maria Formosa (Castello 5176b) and it's indeed one of the must-sees of Venice. So beautiful that it's often very crowded, though.
8. The most iconic bridge of the city
That's one of the most famous bridges and connects the Doge's Palace with the New Prisons.
The English translation of the Italian name, Ponte dei Sospiri, belongs to Lord Byron and suggests the despair of the prisoners, crossing the bridge, while looking to the beautiful Venice for their last time.
You can see it from the Ponte della Paglia in Riva degli Schiavoni, often crowded, or go to Ponte della Canonica.
7. Ponte Chiodo in Cannaregio District
This is a private bridge but it's actually a beautiful and Instagrammable place in Venice. It's located in Cannaregio district and it takes its name from the family who owned it in the past.
Why is it so interesting for your Instagram photos? Because it's one of the two bridges of Venice that has no parapet!
Would you like to know which is the other one? Let's continue reading!
6. Ponte del Diavolo, Island of Torcello
The Devil's Bridge, as we can translate its name into English, is another famous bridge of Venice, known for being without parapets.
It's bigger than Ponte Chiodo and it's located on the amazing Island of Torcello.
If you want to have a complete idea of what Venice is, you should definitely come here. Not only could you see many ruins and buildings of the past, but you could truly enjoy an excursion surrounded by lush nature and a natural landscape.
5. The colorful Island of Burano
In this ranking of the most Instagrammable places of Venice we could not fail to mention the island of Burano.
The rustic coloured houses make the entire island the perfect spot for your photos.
However, in our opinion the best place is located at Casa da Bepi. This is actually the most colored house of the island and you can take here the most amazing shots.
4. The panoramic terrace of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, close to Rialto bridge
This is one of the main tourist attractions of Venice and it's located very close to the Rialto bridge.
It has become popular because from here you can have an enchanting and panoramic view of the Grand Canal and of the city.
Since lots of tourists want to come here to take the perfect shot, now it has become necessary to book your entrance, even though it's free of charge.
3. Riva degli Schiavoni: the perfect picture with San Giorgio Maggiore in the background
We are again close to Saint Mark's square. This time, however, we want to take a closer look at the lagoon and Saint Mark's basin.
Just find your perfect place along the Riva degli Schiavoni and take your picture with gondolas, boats and the majestic island of San Giorgio Maggiore in the background.
If you look westward you can also see Punta della Dogana, located close to the church of Santa Maria della Salute.
2. The Giardini Reali, close to San Marco, the most Instagrammable gardens of Venice
The Giardini Reali (Royal Gardens, in English) overlook the basin of St. Mark's Square for 5,000 square meters. Wanted by Napoleon, in 1920 became the property of the City of Venice and open to the public.
It is said that Empress Sissi also loved them very much. They in fact retain some spaces from that era such as the neoclassical pavilion by Lorenzo Santi, the gate, the cast-iron pergola and the drawbridge that is still lowered on extraordinary occasions to connect the gardens to St. Mark's Square.
A visit here is recommended from March till October, when most of the flowers bloom and it is possible to stroll among wisteria and begonias or in the Coffee Pavilion.
Which would be our favorite Instagrammable place in Venice?
- Scala Contarini del Bovolo, close to San Marco square
Scala Contarini del Bovolo is actually so amazing that no words can truly describe it.
It is a fine example of a spiral staircase ("bovolo", in Venetian), a perfect synthesis of different architectural styles: Renaissance, Gothic, and Byzantine. The staircase was commissioned by Pietro Contarini towards the end of the XV century to unify two wings of the palace he purchased a few years earlier.
But the most important goal was to create a monumental building, capable of increasing the prestige of the family.
The staircase is 28 meters high and has 80 steps: from its domed belvedere you will admire a 360° panorama of Venice and its roofs, bell towers and palaces. If the sky is clear, you can even catch a glimpse of the Dolomites!
To access the staircase you'll have to purchase the ticket. However, wouldn't it be in any photographer's dream?
