81st Venice Film Festival 2024
The Venice Film Festival, one of the most important in the world, is coming.
The 81st Venice Film Festival will be from August 27 to September 7, 2024 at the Lido di Venezia.
During the press conference on July 23, 2024 at the Biblioteca dell’Archivio Storico della Biennale, the big news were announced.
The President of the Biennale di Venezia, Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, and the Artistic Director of the Cinema Sector, Alberto Barbera, told us everything about the films and the stars.
81st Venice Film Festival Highlights
This year the 81st Venice Film Festival has a crazy diverse lineup of films and TV series. Among the most hotly anticipated:
1. Joker - Folie à Deux
The sequel to the Golden Lion winner of 2019 will be in Competition. Joaquin Phoenix is back as Arthur Fleck and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. We can’t wait for this one to be as crazy as the first.
2. Wolfs
With Brad Pitt and George Clooney, Wolfs will be Out of Competition. This one has been generating a lot of buzz and will be one of the festival’s big ones.
3. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
The long awaited sequel to the Tim Burton’s cult classic will open the festival. After more than 30 years the return of the weird ghost Beetlejuice is one of the year’s most anticipated events.
4. M - The Son of the Century
The Sky series by Joe Wright with Luca Marinelli will be one of the festival’s big ones, with a story that fits perfectly with the cinematic spirit of the event.

Special sections and retrospectives
The 81st Venice Film Festival will have:
- Horizons: A section on new trends in cinema with Nonostante by Valerio Mastandrea and a short film by Alice Rohrwacher.
- Critics’ Week and Authors’ Days: Independent sections with a selection of new and unreleased films.
Awards and tributes
This year two Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to two cinema giants: Sigourney Weaver and Peter Weir. Sigourney Weaver for her iconic roles in Alien and Ghostbusters, Peter Weir for Dead Poets Society and Fearless.
